Golden Retriever Helping Himself to Food Melts Hearts: 'Gentle and Polite'

Sep 12, 2023Sep 12, 2023

An obedient golden retriever filmed enjoying a "special treat" has been watched by millions online.

The clip has been liked by more than 583,000 people on TikTok after it was posted by dog owner Olivia Huffman, who uses the handle @wranglerthedoggo, on November 14.

Over 3.6 million people have watched the popular clip, captioned: "He's gentle and polite about it too." In the clip, Wrangler the dog can be seen eating food out of a container whilst Olivia counts.

The good dog has been praised by hundreds of people who are in awe of how obedient he is as he stops on the count of five.

Olivia added the following text to the video: "One time I saw a video of a girl letting her dog eat out of the container as a special treat when she refilled with a new bag. We've done it ever since and now it's his tradition."

Golden retrievers are great family dogs who almost always need a job to do, according to the American Kennel Club.

They also make great working dogs as they are often used as guide dogs and even support pups. Wrangler is a pet but can be seen in the viral clip showcasing great obedience skills.

Goldens are easy to train but easily bored as they require a great deal of mental stimulation to avoid going about on their own or becoming frustrated, according to puppy expert Petrina Firth.

Firth wrote a blog post for puppy training app ZigZag, it said: "Their love for food is infinite," making treats a great tool for training which can start from seven weeks old.

Firth reassures golden owners: "To make your smile even bigger, you'll be happy to hear that golden retriever puppies are very clever, so training is likely to not be as bad as you think."

It seems like Wrangler is one of a kind as many other dog owners have taken the time to comment on the video to state their dog would do the opposite.

he’s gentle and polite about it too 😭 #goldenretriever #doggo #dogsoftiktok #dogtok

The top comment has received 35,100 likes, it said: "So gentle. My dog would demolish half of it if given the opportunity."

"Girl I own a lab... the whole thing would be gone in 30 seconds," said another.

Another said: "This proves there are two types of golden retrievers."

It seems Olivia isn't the only person who does this, another TikToker has commented to say she does the same but calls it a "10-second buffet."

Other users think Wrangler deserves more time eating as he is so well-behaved.

"I think for his politeness and gentleness he deserves 10 seconds," suggested one person.
