Misty Mountain Studio, creator of The Rewinder, has announced a new project entitled “Death Trick: Double Blind.”

Death Trick is a non-linear detective story set in mid-twentieth century America, the golden age of circus. The story will be told from the point of view of two characters, each with different pieces of information available to them. The game’s marketing stresses the lack of hand-holding, allowing the player a significant degree of freedom.

The game’s premise centres around the circus’ star magician disappearing. It falls to the player to solve the mystery of their disappearance while navigating the rumours and speculation of the circus members. Not to mention the fact that the show must go on. In classic detective game fashion, the player will have a limited amount of actions to solve the mystery so careful strategising is key.

The player gathers information for their collection, allowing them to search out contradictions when appropriate. The final version of the game plans to boast eight fully animated characters, ten locations, a multitude of comic panels, over 200,000 words of dialogue and different endings.

The reveal trailer, viewable below, gives you a taste of what to expect from this narrative and introduces you to some of the characters you’ll be investigating.

Misty Mountain’s debut game The Rewinder currently has an “overwhelmingly positive” review score on Steam. The studio’s newest project, Death Trick: Double Blind is being developed by a pair of the studio’s developers, Mari Ma (producer/writer/programmer) and Jenny Yu (art/animation/UI) who were high school best friends.

Death Trick: Double Blind is slated for a release date sometime this year, and is currently available to wishlist on Steam.
